The Urban Economics Sector at the Urban Unit plays a support role for all other sectors. Its aim is to facilitate other sectors in economic and demographic analysis of the province. It provides other sectors with key information which enables them to perform baseline analysis.
In the past the sector has been involved in population projections for all of Punjab since the census was done a very long time ago-in 1998. During the flood 2010 the economics sector projected population at even the mauza level to better understand the damage caused by the floods. The sector has also been involved in the preparation of a report on Poverty Social Impact and Analysis in Urban Punjab. This report is expected to be published in 2011. A report on the Socio-Economic and Demographic Profile of Gujranwala was also prepared by the economics sector.
Recently, the economics sector has been involved with the GIS Sector in preparing an atlas for the Gender in Education in Policy Support Program in Punjab. Statistical Analysis on this project has been prepared by the economics sector. It has also been actively involved in designing the course outline for Urban Sociology course at the University of Gujrat.
In coming few months the sector will be playing a role in the USAID project on Municipal Service Delivery Program. Baseline studies on municipal service delivery will be performed in the southern Punjab province in order to identify the regions that are most in need for change in their municipal service.
