Municipal Finance
The core objective of the Municipal Finance Sector at the Urban Unit is to analyze the present conditions and recommend improvements in financing the urban services initially in five large cities of Punjab and subsequently through out all urban areas of Punjab
Municipal Finance has become one of the vital areas of urban development as gap between financial resources and municipal expenditure is continuously increasing due to rapid urbanization. A sustainable Municipal Finance structure will require assessing the present revenue and expenditure capacity; establishing base-line revenue/expenditure indicators by capturing all kinds of revenue flows, channeled to the jurisdiction of the city districts; and establishing instruments for enhancement of local own-source revenues and disciplined expenditure management.
Urban Unit is continuously striving for the achievement of “VISION 2020” of Government of the Punjab for making the cities of Punjab engines of growth and sustainable development. Urban Unit has worked on various aspects of Municipal Finance. A list of completed and on-going studies is as under:
